We are officially nine draws into the World Women's Curling Championships (Photo: Curling Canada) in Sydney Nova Scotia and Rachel Homan continues her unbeaten streak. By: Meredith McCullum Tuesday morning Rachel Homan, along with teammates Sarah Wilkes, Emma Miskew and Tracy Fleury, took on Italy's Stefania Constantini. Both teams came into the match with dominant starts and a 4-0 record. The game was tight the whole way through, with brilliant shot making by both teams. Homan was forced to make a clutch triple in the fifth end to prevent a big score and Italy would take two points to go up 4-3 at the halfway point. Homan would score two in the sixth and then steal in seven to go up 6-4. After Italy got a deuce in eight and forced one in nine, they would take the hammer into the tenth end down by one. Canada successfully forced one to take back the hammer in the extra end tied 7-7, and they would make no mistake, securing a point and the victory. With this win, Canada is tied for first place with Switzerland's Tirinzoni, who they will face tonight in a battle for top rank. Italy moves down to 4-1, tied with Denmark and Korea for second place. Sweden's Anna Hassleborg has battled back after a difficult 0-3 start and are sitting in sixth place with a 3-3 record. The next draw takes place Tuesday at 2pm AST: Estonia vs Japan, Denmark vs USA, Italy vs New Zealand, Switzerland vs Norway. Tuesday night's action begins at 7pm AST: Canada vs Switzerland, Scotland vs Estonia, Sweden vs Denmark, Turkey vs Korea. |
