 Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones (photo: Andrew Klaver, Curling Canada) will play her last Scotties game in tonight's Final against Ottawa's Rachel Homan. Jones with Karlee Burgess at third, Emily Zacharias and Lauren Lenentine on the front end made no mistake early, hitting the double takeout to score 5 to take an early lead on Kate Cameron, also playing out of Winnipeg. Cameron and her team of Meghan Walter, Kelsey Rocque and Mackenzie Elias fought hard, scoring two in the second and fourth ends, but could not hold Jones to a single until the ninth end, where the point sealed a 12-7 victory for the veteran. Jones lost 6-4 in Saturday's Page 1v2 game to Homan, dropping into the semifinal against Cameron. Cameron won 6-4 over Alberta's Selena Sturmay in the Page 3v4 game and finishes with the bronze medal. Jones advanced to the Page 1v2 game with an 8-4 win over Sturmay in Friday playoff round. Jones finished 6-2 in the 18-team qualifying round pools. In their opening game, Jones defeated Heather Smith (Halifax, NS) 7-5, then won 14-4 against Bayly Scoffin (Whitehorse, YK) and 10-3 against Clancy Grandy (Vancouver, BC). After Jones won 11-3 against Melissa Adams (Fredericton, NB) they dropped their first loss, 7-5 against Homan, then responded with a 10-5 win over Cameron. Jones won 7-3 against Danielle Inglis (Ottawa, ON), going on to lose 8-4 against Kerry Galusha (Yellowknife, NT) in their final qualifying round match. |
