WCF World Team Rankings schedule launches with Curling Stadium set to broadcast Major Tour events in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Minnesota.
CurlingZone is excited to launch Curling Stadium, our new broadcast entity set to show every game in events played in our partner facilities.
Six facilities, including the Morris Curling Club in Manitoba, the Swift Curling Curling Club in Saskatchewan, the Oakville Curling Club and Port Arthur Curling Club in Ontario, the Four Season Curling Center in Minnesota, and the Southern California Curling Center in Los Angeles have tentatively agreed to become Founding Member facilities of Curling Stadium.
The launch comes as the world begins to open and we look ahead to the 2021/22 curling season, and the World Curling Federation World Team Rankings Event schedule opens as the calendar begins to fill.
Curling Stadium permanently installs high-quality cameras into facilities, investing upwards of $60,000 CDN per facility. Curling Stadium will partner with facilities to support the in-venue marketing opportunities and broadcasting of events at each facility.
The Morris Curling Club is the home of the Cargill Curling Training Centre, the brainchild of Chris and Lorne Hamblin. Morris will play host to the DEKALB Superspiel as the first significant Tour event schedule in early August. The Cargill Curling Training Centre also offers the game's first automatic rock throwing machine for training sweeping.
"We're excited to debut with an innovative facility like the Cargill Curling Training Centre as we change the way our game is watched," said CurlingZone President Gerry Geurts.
Oakville will host the Oakville Tankard on the September Labour Day weekend (Sept 3-6), highlighted by the expected participation of Sweden's Anna Hasselborg and Winnipeg's Mike McEwen.
Blaine, Minnesota and the Four Seasons Curling Center, where the Four-weekend US Open Series will feature a Championship Men's and Women's event on September 10-12.
Coverage for the elite events includes produced level coverage from each of the high-level competitive events at each facility.
"By showing it's possible to fans that we can broadcast every sheet, we hope this will light a fire under the major broadcasters to do the same for the elite events," added Geurts.
Swift Current, host of the 2010 and 2016 World Women's Curling Championships, will add their major Tour event over the Thanksgiving long weekend as the Major League Western Showdown.
Port Arthur Curling Club in Thunder Bay plans to run a major Women's Tour event to help support Team McCarville's preparations for the Olympic Trials process and their potential run for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts at home next February.
"Several more facilities are close to confirming for this season, and we're working on adding Tour events to the schedule so we can open up more opportunity to broadcast events."
Permanent Install Supports All Club Activities
Curling Stadium will have wide-ranging benefits for the sport as the camera system will remain permanently inside the facilities invested in this opportunity.
"Facilities will be able to offering charity fundraising events that will be able to tap into broadcast for live-telethon style fundraising."
"Every league game, bonspiel game and even practice session can be streamed and stored on the club's own Youtube channels for promotional purposes," added Geurts.
"We can see real value for facilities in the trickle of views we expect with even the practice sessions becoming a value-add for facilities as teams can re-watch and even include their coaches remotely."
Curling Stadium will be working with facilities to help increase community engagement and exposure, increasing membership and bringing in new event and sponsorship revenues.
