Koe beats Dunstone, keeps playoff hopes alive
![]() Alberta's Kevin Koe (Photo: Andrew Klaver/Curling Canada) defeated Winnipeg, Manitoba's Matt Dunstone 5-4 at the Montana's Canadian Curling Trials in Halifax, N.S. on Nov. 25. By Meredith McCullum As round robin action winds down at the 2025 Canadian Curling Trials, Kevin Koe picked up a crucial victory, taking down previously undefeated Matt Dunstone with a triple on his last shot. "I don't know all the scenarios, but I think we're probably still in control of our own destiny," said Koe after the game. "I don't even know that, but all I know is a loss would have been pretty devastating and probably knocked us out." Koe, backed by Tyler Tardi, Aaron Sluchinski and Karrick Martin, scored one point with hammer in the first end. Dunstone followed it up with a deuce in the second. After a blank in the third, Koe got a deuce of his own in the fourth end, taking the 3-2 lead. Ends five, six and seven were all blanked, and Dunstone scored a single in eight. Dunstone stole in the ninth, taking a 4-3 lead into the final end. After a burnt rock and a lot of trouble brewing for Koe, he played hero on his last shot, making a triple to score two and upset Dunstone with a 5-4 victory. "It's fun. I mean I would like easier shots to win, I think," said Koe after the win. "I feel good, playing well. These are the events that I still get up for...playing the best teams in the world and that's what I enjoy." Koe plays Ontario's John Epping and Saskatchewan's Rylan Kleiter on Nov. 26 to close out round robin action. Dunstone, Jacobs and Gushue now all sit at 4-1. Dunstone plays Jacobs in an important battle on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. AST. Then Jacobs and Gushue faceoff Wednesday evening in a game that could decide which Brad gets the all important bye to the finals. Catch the games on TSN (Canada) and TSN YouTube (internationally).
