![]() Manitoba's Jordon McDonald (Photo: Curling Canada) is in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, competing at the Canadian Olympic Pre-Trials. By Connor Simms, #21 World-Ranked Jordon McDonald, with Jacques Gauthier at third, Elias Huminicki and Cameron Olafson on the front end, are making their Canadian Pre-Trials debut this week. McDonald's team was the first to be eliminated from securing a pre-trial spot, narrowly missing out on points. They enter this week as rookies in this event, but are still a team to watch. McDonald hasn't gotten the results they wanted so far this season, missing the playoffs three of their five events, but finishing in second at the NextGen Classic and quarterfinals at ATB Okotoks Classic. The format for this event is an 8-team round robin, playing each team once. The top team after the round robin will advance straight to the final, while the second and third place teams will play a semi-final. The final will be a best-of-three series. The winner of the event will advance to the Olympic Trials in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in November. In their opening game, on Monday, they will face Ontario's Mark Kean at 9:00 am Atlantic Time (AT) and Ontario's Jayden King at 7:00 pm AT. On Tuesday, they face Maniotba's Braden Calvert at 2:00 pm AT and Quebec's Jean-Michel Menard at 7:00 pm AT. They will have one game on Wednesday against Nova Scotia's Owen Purcell at 2:00 pm AT. They wrap up the round robin on Thursday with games against Ontario Scott Howard at 9:00 am and Ontario's Sam Mooibroek at 7:00 pm AT.
