In their opening game, Hirata defeated Janais DeJong (Grande Prairie, AB) 7-0, then won 6-2 against Graham Powell (Grande Prairie, AB) and 5-0 against Darrel Veiner (Grande Prairie, AB). Hirata won 8-3 against Tracy Steinke (Dawson Creek, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
