In their opening game, McEwen defeated Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) 3-1, then won 5-0 against Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB) and 3-2 against Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON). McEwen won 5-1 against John Shuster (Duluth, USA) in their final qualifying round match.
