Johnston won 9-0 against Andrew Sinclair (Thunder Bay, ON), then won 8-2 against Al Hackner (Thunder Bay, ON) and 7-2 against Rob Skinner (Thunder Bay, ON). Johnston won 7-1 against Ashley Palmer (Thunder Bay, ON), then won 6-2 against Adams Jr. in their final qualifying round match.
