Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA) finished 5-4 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Retornaz defeated Sergei Glukhov (Moscow, RUS) 8-6, then went on to lose 7-5 against Ross Paterson (Stirling, SCO). Retornaz lost 11-4 to Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) where Retornaz responded with a 10-3 win over Marc Muskatewitz (Fuessen, GER). Retornaz won 8-7 against Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR), then won 8-2 against Andrew Reed (Kent, ENG). Retornaz went on to lose 9-8 against Mikkel Krause (Hvidovre, DEN). Retornaz responded with a 7-6 win over Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED). Retornaz went on to lose 7-5 against Yannick Schwaller (Bern, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.

Retornaz earned 15.978 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 32nd place overall with 145.977 total points. Retornaz ranks 27th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 104.471 points earned so far this season.
