Joe Polo (Duluth, MN) lost 7-2 to Rich Ruohonen (Seattle, WA) in the Final of the Curl Mesabi Classic, held December 8 - 10, 2017 at the Curl Mesabi in Eveleth, United States. To advance to the championship game, Polo won 3-2 over Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN) in the semifinals of the 2017 Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minnesota, United States; and won 8-7 over John Shuster (Duluth, USA) in the quarterfinals.
 
Polo finished 3-1 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Polo defeated Northern Ontario's Dylan Johnston 7-3, then won 5-4 against Kyle Foster (Winnipeg, MB) and 5-1 against Tom Scott (Hibbing, MN). Polo went on to lose 7-1 against Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Curl Mesabi Classic, Polo take home 22.367 world rankings points along with the $5,139CDN prize, moving up 37 spots the World Ranking Standings into 101st place overall with 51.822 total points. Polo ranks 112th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 22.367 points earned so far this season.
