To advance to the championship game, De Cruz won 5-2 over Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON) in the semifinals of the 2018 Meridian Canadian Open in Camrose, Alberta; and won 7-6 over Steve Laycock (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2018 Meridian Canadian Open in Camrose, Alberta;
De Cruz finished 3-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, De Cruz defeated Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR) 6-3, then won 5-3 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL). De Cruz went on to lose 6-3 against Jacobs. De Cruz responded with a 8-3 win over Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Meridian Canadian Open Championship title, De Cruz earned 82.727 world rankings points along with the $30,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 7th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 65.297 after improving upon their best so far this season. De Cruz ranks 5th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 331.413 points earned so far this season.
