To advance to the championship game, Thomas won 5-4 over Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) in the semifinals of the 2016 Canad Inns Men's Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; and won 6-2 over Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, NONT) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Canad Inns Men's Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada;
Thomas finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thomas defeated Chang-Min Kim (Uiseong, KOR) 6-3, then won 8-2 against John Shuster (Duluth, USA). Thomas went on to lose 5-4 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB). Thomas responded with a 7-3 win over Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB). Thomas won 7-2 against Daley Peters (Winnipeg, MB). Thomas went on to lose 6-5 against Bruce Korte (Saskatoon , SK). Thomas responded with a 8-3 win over William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Canad Inns Men's Classic, Thomas take home 52.674 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN prize, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 9th place overall with 352.221 total points. Thomas ranks 9th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 127.440 points earned so far this season.
