Chiaki Matsumura (Karuizawa, JPN) lost 9-4 to Rachel Homan (Ottawa, ON) in the Final of the Canad Inns Women's Classic, held October 21 - 24, 2016 at the Portage Curling Club in Portage La Prairie, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Matsumura won 6-5 over Bingyu Wang (HARBIN, CHN) in the semifinals   of the 2016 Canad Inns Women's Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; and won 6-5 over Sherry Anderson (Delisle, SK) in the quarterfinals.  of the 2016 Canad Inns Women's Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; 
 
Matsumura finished 4-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Matsumura lost 7-5 to Kerri Einarson (Winnipeg, MB), then responded with a 6-2 win over Wang. Matsumura went on to lose 8-2 against Michelle Englot (Winnipeg, MB). Matsumura responded with a 5-3 win over Jie Mei (Harbin, CHN). Matsumura won 6-0 against Rachel Burtnyk (Winnipeg, MB), then won 8-3 against Englot in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Canad Inns Women's Classic, Matsumura take home 58.704 world rankings points along with the $10,400CDN prize, moving up 38 spots the World Ranking Standings into 49th place overall with 93.180 total points. Matsumura ranks 19th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 63.783 points earned so far this season.
