Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) won 6-5 over Ted Appelman (Edmonton, AB) in the Final of the Red Deer Curling Classic, held November 18 - 21, 2016 in Red Deer, Alberta. To advance to the championship game, Koe won 5-4 over Kyle Smith (Stirling, SCO) in the semifinals of the 2016 Red Deer Curling Classic in Red Deer, Alberta; and won 7-6 over Sean Geall (Kelowna, BC) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Red Deer Curling Classic in Red Deer, Alberta;
Koe finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Koe defeated Arizona's Mike Siggins 7-2, then went on to lose 4-2 against Geall. Koe responded with a 5-2 win over Tyler Pfeiffer (Edmonton, AB). Koe won 6-2 against Drew Heidt (Kerrobert, SK). Koe went on to lose 7-2 against Smith. Koe responded with a 4-3 win over Charley Thomas (Edmonton, AB). Koe won 7-2 against Jamie King (Edmonton/Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Red Deer Curling Classic Championship title, Koe earned 45.335 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 2nd place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 731.740 total points. Koe ranks 8th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 200.580 points earned so far this season.
