Bottcher finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Bottcher defeated Christopher Plys (Blaine, USA) 5-2, then won 6-3 against Glenn Howard (Penetanguishene, ON). Bottcher went on to lose 4-3 against Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste. Marie, ON). Bottcher lost 8-3 to Matt Dunstone (Winnipeg, MB) where Bottcher responded with a 7-3 win over Markus Hoiberg (Oppdal, NOR). Bottcher won 6-3 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB), then won 8-2 against Mark Kean (Stoney Creek, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
