To advance to the championship game, Thurston won 10-5 over Margaretha Sigfridsson (Skelleftea, SWE) in the semifinals of the 2014 Canad Inns Women's Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; and won 6-5 over Michelle Englot (Regina, SK) in the quarterfinals.
Thurston finished 3-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thurston defeated Val Sweeting (Edmonton, AB) 5-4, then won 6-2 against Ayumi Ogasawara (Sapporo, JPN) and 6-5 against Nina Roth (Blaine, USA) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Canad Inns Women's Classic, Thurston take home 22.500 world rankings points along with the $10,300CDN prize, moving up 5 spots the World Ranking Standings into 16th place overall with 66.025 total points.
