In their opening game, Sonnenberg defeated Heather Jensen (Airdrie, AB) 6-3, then went on to lose 6-2 against Shannon Kleibrink (Calgary, AB). Sonnenberg responded with a 7-5 win over Eun Jung Kim ( Gyeongbuk Uiseong,, KOR). Sonnenberg went on to lose 7-4 against Satsuki Fujisawa (Nagano, JPN). Sonnenberg responded with a 4-2 win over Yilun Jiang (HARBIN, CHN). Sonnenberg won 7-5 against Jessie Kaufman (Edmonton, AB), then won 9-4 against Kelly Scott (Kelowna, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
