Jason Gunnlaugson (Beausejour, MB) lost 6-2 to Kerry Burtnyk (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic, held October 23 - 26, 2009 at the Portage Curling Club in Portage La Prairie, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Gunnlaugson won 7-4 over Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2009 Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; and won 5-2 over Allan Lyburn (Brandon, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2009 Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada;
 
Gunnlaugson finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gunnlaugson defeated Peter Nicholls (Winnipeg, MB) 6-1, then went on to lose 5-3 against Robert Desjardins (Saguenay, PQ). Gunnlaugson responded with a 7-5 win over Al Hackner (Thunder Bay, ON). Gunnlaugson won 6-5 against Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB). Gunnlaugson went on to lose 6-1 against Stoughton. Gunnlaugson responded with a 6-4 win over Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Gunnlaugson won 8-3 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic, Gunnlaugson take home 21.150 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN prize. For week of the event schedule, Gunnlaugson did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Gunnlaugson ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
