Kerry Burtnyk (Winnipeg, MB) won 6-2 over Jason Gunnlaugson (Beausejour, MB) in the Final of the Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic, held October 23 - 26, 2009 at the Portage Curling Club in Portage La Prairie, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Burtnyk won 7-5 over Dave Elias (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2009 Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; and won 6-4 over Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2009 Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada;
 
Burtnyk finished 5-1 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Burtnyk defeated Murray Woodward (Ste. Anne, MB) 6-4, then won 7-2 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN) and 3-1 against Joel Jordison (Moose Jaw, SK). Burtnyk went on to lose 5-4 against Wayne Middaugh (Toronto, ON). Burtnyk responded with a 5-3 win over David Bohn (Winnipeg, MB). Burtnyk won 8-4 against Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Meyers Norris Penny Prairie Classic Championship title, Burtnyk earned 33.840 world rankings points along with the $18,000CDN first prize cheque. For week of the event schedule, Burtnyk did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Burtnyk ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
