Atina Johnston (Edmonton, AB) finished 4-3 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Johnston defeated
Kelley Law (New Westminster, BC) 10-9, then won 6-4 against Nola Zingel (Vermillion, ). Johnston went on to lose 9-8 against Glenys Bakker (Calgary, AB). Johnston responded with a 5-4 win over Alberta's Karen Powell. Johnston went on to lose 10-7 against Patti Knezevic (Prince George, BC). Johnston responded with a 8-2 win over Law. Johnston went on to lose 8-6 against Renee Sonnenberg (Grande Prairie, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
