I think the last time Brad was not at the Brier was 2006 as he was a little busy at the Olympics. Last person other than Brad was Ken Peddigrew in 2006. Brad has been every other year since 2003. He hasn't lost since 2002.

Matt Blandford def Brad 8-7 in 11 ends on Feb 4 2010 (thanks wiki)

That said, if KVO, Kelly Scott or Corryn Brown emerge from their playdown I'd say they're about 90% certain to get thru relegation.
95% that Brown, Scott or Van Osch emerge from playdowns
I wonder how many games Kelly Scott has played so far this year (my guess is under a dozen)
Kelly's been playing all season, I believe they've been in 5 spiels. She has the same team as last year, but added Jenna Loder from Manitoba at 2nd.
Corryn hasn't entered women's playdowns, as she's still a junior and seems focused on that. Next year you may see them skip juniors entirely as Erin Pincott is aging out, though they may still put together a team with the other three but just for junior playdowns only.

Mary Fay did not enter the NS Scotties Playdowns. They are focusing on juniors.

I believe Mary Fay is only 17 years old which would make her ineligible for Scotties play which would certainly be a factor in not entering.

kind of figured they might give womens a go but if they are still playing juniors it makes sense they wouldnt.

Ontario playdowns start this weekend. Still puzzling why Glen Howard changed zones? Might be the ice? Ontario now has two regions for the Scotties rather than zones. Middaugh should make it through...but you never know in curlng.
Glen has some competition in his zone, quite a few teams entered there as opposed to only 4 in his old zone.

I suspect they will make short work on the zone and when all is said and done, win the region. As with any new team, it takes time to figure things out.

Yeah, i would be really surprised if Glenn fails to qualify again.although if he does i wonder if that might be it. he wants to make 2018 but if he fails to qualify for provincials 2 years in a row and coupled with his poor results in slams might he decide he's had enough. just how determined is he to get to 2018.

on a junior note the mens event could be outsnading this year if all the favored teams get out of their provinces. imagine a candian junior tournament that had these teams in the field:
tyler tardi
tanner horgan
matt dunstone/ or braeden calvert
rene comeau
all highly regarded junior teams. would be really hard to try and predict a winner from those 4..again, thats if they get there and i might be forgetting someone.

shannon into the A qualifier in the alberta southerns. Im surprised she had to play this, i would have thought she'd accumulated enough points to qualify directly for provincials.

I wouldn't rule out Reidarama for atleast a back up pick. Having said that, there's something seems to be missing with Reid whether its just needing a 5th player eg. Fowler or Stoughton (with Jeff calling the game but playing 2nd) or moving Derek Samagalski to playing 3rd. A great team but respectfully just not quite there over to the next level.
Mike McEwen shall get out of Manitoba within the next two years or He will be known as the Chicago Cubs of curling!
You really think Reid has "something missing" I think for a second year team they are performing extremely well! Made it to a slam final 2 spiels ago. It'll be a tight MB provincials! Reid could definetly pull it out. He is superb under pressure.

finally some news in from ontario zones
glenn howard got out of the zones in 3 straight games and in what look like pretty comfortable games.
ryan mcrady is first out of zone 1
colin dow comes out of zone 3
ian dickie and dayna deruelle out of zone 9
bill buchanan and pat ferris out of zone 13
daryl shane out of zone 14
mike harris out of zone 7
rob houston and jake walker out of zone 6
john bolton and scott mcdonald out of zone 5
greg balsdon and dave collyer out of zone4
The biggest news by far is that Defending champion mark kean lost his first match to richard krell and is locked 5-5 without hammer, playing in the 9th end against damien villard.
