Different slant on Team Canada

I have felt for a couple of years that the teams needed a change as I don't think the senior skips really could go into all the physical challenges it was going to involve to keep up with the younger players. The younger teams like the two Brads and Mike McEwen and the Jones and Holman teams have really made it a full time thing with fitness and change of diet and mental training to probably be able to overtake the oldie teams. They just weren't able to defeat them because of the their experience and I think they were getting frustrated and wanted to change their chances. It was kind of a time for the changing of the guard really because it is no longer an older person's interest. Young people are getting involved with the great programs and funding being provided now. However, watching Pat Simmons after the takeover switch operate, sure showed that slow and by that I mean patient and quiet, and steady does win the race. He kept his cool, didn't waiver and truly deserved to win with the team, I thought. It was a lesson in humility all the way around. Normally I wasn't a fan of his before because he was on opposite teams, but you couldn't help but admire that team's performance and give credit to Johnnie Mo and the team for humbling themselves and falling into sync. In some ways it may have been their last chance at the Brier if the members go their separate ways. It was quite the statement and I really was happy to see them win. Lots of changes this week. Can't help but wonder how stringent next year is going to be. In all honesty there was times this week where I felt that curling was changing to more of a job than a sport because of the intensity, but maybe I am just seeing a different scenario. I had to admit I did miss Stoughton, Martin, Howard and Koe and Middaugh vying for the title, but I think curling has evolved away from what we have known and will never be that again. It would be fun to see a senior's division with the oldies as a weekend special or something. I have said before on here that I felt there should be a line drawn at a certain age (I said 50 but maybe 45 is more realistic) to change to a senior's range so we don't kill the incentive of the young people and lose curling as an enjoyment sport rather than a marathon race where the intensity is such that no one relaxes. Just my two cents, well more like two dollars worth. I have watched curling from my teen years as my father was a curling fan so have seen it evolve all my life. But the Y Generation wants to be heard, and they will be. Am I the only one that feels this way? By the way why is the name Harvey Hacksmasher showing up under my login name above left. I have always had this login name. Anyone?
