2013 Scott Tournament of Hearts
The first 3 teams in the field are determined.
Galusha for the yukon - surprise, surprise. No real competition for her up north at all.
Devereaux for New foundland - surprising for sure. expecting either strong or nichols to get through
Scott for British Columbia - no real surprise. Kelly wins an unprecedented 4th BC title in a row. Jeane schraeder makes her return to the scotties.

The Ontario Scotties starts tonight with the strongest field in years.
http://www.ontarioscotties.com
Homan, McCarville, Middaugh, and Horgan are the favourites, but watch out for Team Mouzar. Jillian has Hollie Nicol and Danielle Inglis playing front end, both local heroes at the K-W Granite Club for their years of success in University play, which is sure to make them the crowd favourites.
Great tickets are still available in Waterloo, but if you can't make it live, you can follow all the rocks on our feature sheet here:

I for one hope Middaugh is around at the end. With a trials berth on the line and the team not getting any younger this could be their last chance. There are some great young teams out there.
If Rizzo is on her game and doesn't leave the Skip too many circus shots then they have a chance. However, Homan wants that berth pretty badly and will be hard to beat.

Quebec gets underway today a well. If marie-france is playing anywhere near her best she should win this, it would stun me more than any other province if she doesnt get out. Belisle might have a slight chance but still if marie is curling well and has a handle on the ice she should beat her. The only thin stopping larouche from winning much like the only thing stopping kelly scott from getting out of BC and kerry Galusha from getting out of the yukon is herself.

Why do 2 of the teams at the Ontario Scotties have 5ths with them? I thought that wasn't allowed. See photo link

I believe the Northern teams make bring a 5th, but the Southern teams fall under OCA rules and are not allowed a 5th.

The two teams with a 5th are southern teams. Auld and Hastings. Or did they get around the rules and have their 5ths join the spare pool. If so I'm sure there will be complaints about that....

One would presume the complainants would be directed to the following paragraph of the OCA competition rules:
quote: Except for the Men’s & Women’s Provincial Championships, the current policy of the Ontario Curling Association is NOT to allow an alternate player at a Provincial Championship unless such alternate is selected from the pool of alternate/substitute players established by the host committee and approved by the OCA Executive Director.

Great games in Waterloo, Ontario last night, and a great crowd! The VIP area was sold out, and we had a good number of people huddling under blankets out in the bleachers.
Horgan made an early statement in thumping McCarville 9-3.
2pm today we'll be running our web strategy board for Homan v. Mouzar. Last night 720 unique visitors dropped in to observe and comment on the action:
http://www.curlinggeek.com/ontario-scotties/
(Aside: still figuring out what to call this app. "broadcast" sounds like TV, and "web strategy board" is too long)

Read it carefully, it says EXCEPT FOR THE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S PROVINCIALS. We have everything approved and our 30 week pregnant vice required us to bring a spare. Nobody is intending to break rules or cheat the system. Looking forward to a great week of curling.

Mcarville is on a downward spiral. She;s not really among the top teams in the country anymore and i dont even know if you could say she's one of the top threats in ontario. I'd definately rank middaugh, homan and horgan ahead of her and right now i might even name hastings and auld as bigger thrats to the ontario crown. Im just left wondering what in the hell happened because a few years ago she was unquestionably the best team in ontario and that was with middaugh and homan competing still.
did the loss of tara george and lorraine lang hurt her that much?

This rule must have been changed this year. Too bad the other teams weren't informed. Typical OCA. I'd be interested in knowing why.

Homan had a close call last night. She is my pick to win. (I know, I know, I'm going out on a limb).
Middaugh and Horgan and McCarville should all be in the playoff hunt. Interesting to see how the youngster Lilly makes out.
Here's my preview of the event: http://hurryhardblog.blogspot.ca/

The competition rules are publicly available in plain language for anyone to read, on the OCA website.

Team mccarville is really not looking good so far. 2 blow out losses
middaugh and homan look good so far as expected.
horgan had a crushing loss to team lilly. great win for team lilly but might end up proving to be costly for team horgan with games against middaugh, hastings, auld and homan to come.

3 blow-out wins in first round of MB Scotties. Only relatively close game is where hometown fav. Cameron appears to be on her way to a win over Harvey

Good mid-round matchup today with the Young Wolves (Homan) taking on the Old Fawns (Middaugh)@ Ontario Scotties in K-W
Middaugh has a very good team but I'm afraid they're over-matched by the power and technique Homan harnesses.
Key player matchup will be at third where Emma Miskew goes up against Rizzo. If Miskew is in tune today it shouldn't be a problem and this game won't go the full 10.
Its probably a precursor to the final, unless Hastings, Horgan or even Kris McCarville rallies.
Instead of Old Fawns, perhaps the Does? Anyway good be a good match up - the "wolves" should not underestimate Middaugh...she can pull it out. Hopefully Rizzo doesn't let her down.
Too bad I am working - otherwise I would live to watch this game!

I am amazed that manitobalegend continually says that rachel's team outmatches team middaugh and yet sherry is probably the only team in ontario with a positive H2H against rachel.
as for quebec..i am really surprised to see marie at 1-2.

Kilgallen topples O/C 7-3! The girls from Pinawa get to play Carey this evening. I don't count too much on their success continuing.
