yeah, its flaws have played out many a time in the bronze medal game.

But then I knew enough to look through the channels, just in case.

Homan wins gold medal rather easy over Sidorova....
that is the way it appeared to me anyways, Congratulations to Rachel and her team , noticed when they were handing out the gold medals to Canada , Glenn Howard standing nearby with the bronze medal winning ladies from Scotland , I noticed he had a great big grin on his face... smiling .

Loved seeing the tears in Joanne's eyes! Way to go!
Did people not realize ( you were told earlier on CZ) that the bronze game was streamed live on the WCF site?

I think I saw every end (maybe sleepy through some) and don't recall Canada playing the fifth. At one time the fifth had to play X amount to be on the trophy and in records. Is that still needed?

Full credit to Team Canada for making it look easy all week. When you win a world title in any sport and make it look easy while doing so then you have done something truly special.
And I can't help but think how close they were to defeat at the Scotties. Those great shots by Rachel in the Scotties final led to this.

The Start of a Homan/Canada Dynasty for Women's
Congrats to Team Homan. They must be thrilled with the win; and that high is going to stay with them all summer.
When this team initially showed up on the curling radar it was quite evident that their aggressive style more akin to the men's game would eventually pay dividends; and here they are.
My hope is that this team stays together for another dozen years representing Ontario/Canada and puts together a very large string of consecutive World and Olympic championship titles.
I think most Canadians would agree that our women's curling talent at the world level hasn't been reflected in the number of Gold medals over the last 20 years. I'm not sure why. It would make a good topic for another thread, another time.
Team Homan will need to skew the record books closer to where they should be. i.e. Canada winning > 50% of the world titles(no pressure Rachel). Then all will be right with the curling world.
After all, it is our game.(with apologies to Scotland)

The status of the # 1 ranked women's curling team in the
world has been confirmed once again.
Homan, at 27, has now achieved at this age more than any
other Skip in Canadian curling history. She has, as a
matter of fact, achieved at this juncture more than Schmirler,
C. Jones and J. Jones did combined!
Undoubtedly, a true Canadian curling prodigy, the best thing
that's ever happened to women's curling in Canada.
'Already Beyond Great'.

Missed first half of game. Any explanation given for Kovaleva playing lead for Russia rather than Nkeiruka?

You nailed it, they were so close to not getting there without the brilliance of Rachel's shotmaking. Great job ladies

The two players that Russia has changing positions have two very different strengths they seem to bring to the game. Nkeiruka (Kira) is a great sweeper, strong and adds a lot to that shotmaking while Alina is a more of a shotmaker having skipped a fair bit in the past.
To beat Rachel, the plan is to be aggressive and put pressure on her, and it was likely a strategy move to put the player in who could better position those first two shots. Hard to say what would be been different had Kira been in the lineup on a couple of Sidorova draws early in the game.

It really doesn't matter what Jenny has won or will win in
the future because her record will always be severely
tainted by the GIMLI fiasco which is still odious.
Certainly the only Scotties skip in curling history to
receive jeers as she scurried from the rink.
P.S. The messy dismissal of Cathy O. didn't exactly add to
her endearment either.

In the big picture it doesnt matter. She has the wins and that is what her legacy is going to based on. It is not like Homan is known as a sweetheart either, LOL!

Absolutely right. Besides Jen may have taken all the blame for Cathy's dismissal and kept her mouth shut on who really wanted her gone. Gimli - old, old news. She did what the rules said she could do.
