The Swiss bounce back nicely with a huge 9-3 win over the US, Norway needed an extra end to take out lowly Russia 7-6, Canada dealt Sweden another blow 9-6 and China dispatched Italy 6-2.
After day 2 Canada leads everyone at 3-0, then 5 teams follow at 2-1, still anyone's event.
Previewing draw 6: Canada should defeat the Czech's, but I do think if Canada is going to lose, it might be here, The US should bounce back after the Swiss loss to vanquish the Finns, tough call between China and Japan, I'll go Japan, Norway-Scotland normally would be Norway, but the way the event has unfolded you never know, Norway have to start playing better, they are barely scraping by, Scotland really need the win to not fall to 0-4, assuming Murdoch plays this will likely be close, ultimately I have to pick the defending champs.

Definitely has been interesting so far, but it is also early in the week and things can and will change.
Team USA came to play, that is for sure. Yeah, they dropped a nasty one to Switzerland but two of their toughest opponents are behind them already. If they play like they did against Canada and Norway I think they'll definitely be making a run for the playoffs.
Japan and Italy seem to be dark horse contenders for a playoff spot as well. Sweden has been struggling a bit, but I think they'll get some more wins and move up in the pack.
Scotland seem to be all out of sorts, and as was noted they've already brought Murdoch in off the bench. Even 0-3 I don't think they need to be in full panic mode yet, but if they don't get a win soon things are looking grim.

There seems to be a lack of good looking men at this years event compared to the number of A class women at their worlds.
Ulsrud is still the best arm candy out there. But I do like the dreadlock look too!

@legend - if you are not going to refer to ewan macdonald by his name then dont refer to him at all.
my picks for this afternoon
japan and finland both playing well. finland could easily be 3-1 right now. this will be tight i think but i will lean toward japan
italy v.s switzerland..switzerland coming off a win against the US but that US team didnt really pressure them at all. they are fairly even but i will go with italy
czech republic will continue scotlands misery
sweden will rebound and beat russia. they basically have to with norway up tonight . cant afford to risk going 1-4 this early

So Canada doesn't really even give the Czech's a chance, what a demolition 11-2, Finland pull an upset over the US 7-4, China-Japan was a toss up, this time it wen't Japan's way 9-5, Norway take out struggling Scotland 11-6.
Previewing draw 7: Finland may have been able to upset a struggling US team, but Japan will be too much for them as they are playing better, The Swiss are looking good again, so there is no reason why they should not beat Italy, even though the Czech's just got hammered, they should prevail over a Scottish side in dire straights, if Sweden can't beat Russia, they might as well pack their bags now.

Right. The Czechs are better than the pasting they took this morning. Alas, the Scots aren't. Yesterday I saw a strategy discussion between MacDonald and Murdoch. Poor Ewan had the 1000-yd stare. The team meeting going on right now must be pretty brutal. Let's hope the players are left to sort it out rather than the bureaucrats from the Royal Caledonian who have been known to interfere.

Totally agree. bad call. they should have tried a tiny split on the front guard. if they tapped the guard over a couple inches and the shooter stayed, they would have guarded both options and made it pretty tough. They talked about it but for some reason they ended up with the high guard. I'm not sure the sweepers had a clear idea what the called shot was.

Two things:
1) Why isn't TSN televising an afternoon draw even w/o Canada playing? With 5 channels, you'd think one could be showing Russia-Sweden or something.
2) Does anyone know who chose Murdoch to be 5th man for Scotland? Was it Ewan McDonald, or was it the Scottish association? Having him there is pretty much a ready-made recipe for turmoil if Scotland got off to a rough start, which is exactly what has happened.

I think the Scottish association hand picked Murdoch, doesn't matter if he finishes last in the Scottish championships, he still gets to go as the 5th. Not sure how much help he is giving. Looks like none at this point.

Finland keep punching above their weight with a 5-4 win over Japan, how long can they keep it going for, The Swiss dominated Italy 7-1, Italy have rapidly gone downhill, The Czech's pretty much eliminated Scotland 8-6, this has to be unacceptable for the Scots the 1st to go out and with 5 straight losses, Sweden crush Russia 9-3 which is what they needed to do.
Previewing draw 8: Italy-US is a tough pick, as both teams are not playing well, so it's anyone's game, I'll go US, Canada won't have a problem with Russia, I will take Norway over Sweden, but it's a tough pick and should be a good battle, I like how the Swiss are playing right now, so they will defeat China.

Sad day for the kilts...0-5 record....

Anyone familiar with the rules concerning evening practices?
The Swedes are currently drowning their sorrows in some ice time. Is there a schedule for extra practice? First-come first-serve?
Remember that time Jamie Koe found out there were evening practices and he gave up patch time to go there? (hint: he lost the following day)
