two days early does mean getting the venue 2 days earlier. Ice has to be put in and the venue prepared (media bench, draping, signage etc). And if those 2 days mean a third weekend, the cost will be very high. Junior teams are often in playoffs and some cities have problems getting into CHL venues even now.
They already had the venue for the pre qualifier like I've stated, they started set up the ice earlier anyways for practice. Since when is two extra days that the pre qualifier is already using another weekend! Read before you post.

To do the entire full event to start on Thursday it would take 2 extra days and need two more days for the arena. They way the Pre-Qualifier was run, the teams got practice ice on Thursday and played their games while the ice was being used for Team Practices and Hotshots which are things that would have to be moved to Wendesday and Thursday if you started the entire event on Thursday evening. Or started Friday.
There is a difference between the two options.

10 provinces, 1 from the territories, for 11 teams, the 12th team being either Northern Ontario, or Team Canada.

Why leave the provinces and make the terr. Playoff? The territories have had better success at the brier than pei

Small technicality Guido; for what it's worth the "Spuds" do have one second place finish in 1969 and a third place in 1968 (both with 6-3 records). That puts them up on the Territories.

The terr had an 8-3 record their first year and a playoff spot recently. I would say that is better.
