QWow....*CLEAR* Hog line technology fail....
We need replay for this...I get that they're gonna check the handle...but that's *clearly* a fail.

Why did USA not tell Canada to re-throw that rock when it was clearly released before the hog line?

Lots of possible reasons...
Yeah, we see it clearly on replay, but they don't *have* that available to them.
From where the players were, they can't know, for sure, at least.
And the procedure blasted into the players heads is "IF there is an issue, the protest is to have the stone checked...if the handle goes red, and checks out, it's hogged".
If there wasn't a USA player right there to be sure it was a fail...they don't know.

how about overhead cameras similar to nhl nets to confirm or deny these situations?

Honestly, just an official with authority to watch the available TV replay, maybe with the skips in attendance, and rectify clear error.
There's gotta be a way to rule around this.
Don't get me wrong, my inner US fan is a huge fan of the chance to get back into the game...but my inner Good Sportsman is saying 'Sh*t...there's gotta be a way to fix this'

Do sensor handles register double touches? I can't tell from the replay because of the angle but maybe her finger touched the back of the handle after she let go.

The tech is pretty straightforward, there's a magnet on the ice, and the stone senses when it crosses that magnet, and if the handle is being touched when the stone crosses the magnet, it goes red. If not, it goes green.
It doesn't "sense double touches", but only because it ain't that smart.
*IF* her finger was on the handle (I don't think I agree, I think she was clear) then yes, it would (rightly) go red.

And, largely, non-issue moving forward as Canada makes the hit against 3 to take 1...all told...likely a just result.

Sorry Alan but the US players would have had to be in a different building to not see that the rock was released way before the hogline.

Brown (and the officials) get it right in the 4th end...when the same stone makes the same problem....and they order a rethrow (and ignoring of that stone's handle for the remainder of the game).
Looking pretty bad for the US here...

outsider looking in, u.s. front 3, especially mate, should be quiet and let the skip call the game, waaaay too much chatter and indecision.

Their is a good reason their is lots of chatter from the USA front end.. In most cases I don't like it but this case its justified

Down 5-1 and giving a volunteer umpire **** for clearly making the right call? Wtf ??? USA should have told Can to re-throw the first time it happened. BTW, 0-3 is not a good start for a supposed playoff bound team.

It looks like Allison has been making a few "Long Distance" calls-but this rink has enjoyed a lot of success this year. My guess is that a combination of a 4 count and going 0-3 on TV might have them a bit rattled. The Russians had a disterous game this afternoon too and they face Canada tomorrow morning. That's why you have a coach...Ms. Swisshelm will have to get to work tonight.
