Courtney is the strongest sweeper in Canada because she trained and worked hard. But she is where she is today because of her three former team mates and she has slapped them in the face. it is very unethical how she went about this. any player with any scruples would have come clean long ago. I don't have as much class as team sweeting. I say alberta is better off without an athelte who would pull a stunt like this, I say good by and good ridence Joanne Courtney.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I'm certainly entitled to mine. I want to point out that you have used some very strong words in the above statement. You've used the words........fact, disgraceful, dumped, slapped, unethical and scruples. Joanne made a choice and I believe we should respect that. I'm certain it wasn't easy but who said lifes decisions are easy. Give her a break.

I'm sure there was. Unfortunately no matter how tactfully these things are handled someone will inevitably get hurt, it's just unavoidable. That's why I know Joanne's decision must have been difficult, even though she's going to a great team. These Olympic cycles have just raised the stakes to a whole other level.

It might be quite interesting for Alison to be curling for Cissi Ostlund or some other Swedish team at world championships against Canada, maybe Homan, after she sits out the two year waiting period.

She had a bad game in the final...around here that's enough to make it fact. Ignore the great games she's played, focus on the bad one.

You just as well focus on the bad one(s) Lawes has had as well.

Found this on another thread! Interesting to say the least, with Mark Nichols going back to the Rock are there changes to be announced with Team Gushue. I think it's a reunion for more than the weekend with Geoff Walker. I would say he's back in Alberta!

You're kidding right? Walker relocated to Newfoundland for a reason.

It's well known Walker & Sallows are great friends, and curled years together in Juniors. Rumour has it he's just up visiting family and friends, now that most of the season is over.

I'd be very surprised to see him split from Gushue... Very surprised. I am however interested to see what happens in Newfoundland with Nichols moving back? Do you think Nichols & Gushe can put their differences aside and team up? I guess time will tell.

All this talked seems to be proving one thing.
The Brier is not important anymore and the Olympics are the way to go.
The CCA should look at it and not just take the money and run.
Koe select a new team and forgo team Canada and Homan might do the same.

Meanwhile we are still debating relegation.Team Canada is not important to any of the winner

The Olympics has been the main focus for top level teams for well over a decade (and nearing two decades) now.

That doesn't mean teams don't care about Team Canada, winning the brier is worth major funding and points. Every team in the country wants to win the brier. However, Koe is likely also thinking is a free trip back next year, when he's quite likely to win his way back next year with a superior team anyway (especially if Martin retires). He's focusing on the next four years, and with that in mind, it makes no sense to keep a squad together that won't be playing that olympic cycle.

As for relegation, now that's something that needs to go.

Unhappy

I'm surprised, confused and disappointed in Joanne's decision.

I understand that it is competitive curling and the goals are 4 year cycles to the Olympics.

Everyone is saying what an opportunity Team Homan is. But if she knew they were losing their second, you would have to think that it would have crossed her mind that Team Homan would be weaker next year. Further, that Team Sweeting would continue to grow and strengthen.

There are no guarantees but she probably had an equal if not better chance for her to be on the next team to win STOH and go on to the Olympics by staying where she was.

Without a doubt, fans of Team Sweeting are feeling betrayed by her very late March decision to leave the team. She wasn't even able to stay with Team Sweeting for 4 years. Time will tell with her next team.

I don't know maybe Mark would like to have his own team and give Gushue a run for the province. It would be the thing to do with their differences. Any thoughts?

^ There aren't any differences for Gushue and Nichols to put aside. Mark moved to Manitoba because his wife wanted to move, and he also took a year off from competitive curling. Brad was surprised to find him joining the Stoughton rink, but that was after a year without Mark on his team anyway, but that was it. They aren't in high school.

I would be surprised if Nichols didn't join the Gushue rink. That move should increase Gushue's chances of medalling at future Brier's and other bonspiels.

The problem is Curling is not a one man sport. Nichols would need to find three guys to play with, and fast. It would make sense to get back together with Gushue

I will say this. Don Duguid, the great 3 time manitoba, 3 time canadian champion started off as a front-ender for Howard Wood, Jr. in the mid 50s, evolved to playing 3rd for Terry Braunstein in Manitoba's 1965 Brier win, skipped a couple years with no real notoriety and was basically retiring from the game in 1969 when he received a call from Rod Hunter aka The Arrow who convinced him to skip a team with Arrow at 3rd and two big thugs known as Pettapiece and Wood on the front end. They became one of the great teams in curling history and Duguid finally made his play to be one of the great skips in curling history!

He won a Canadian mixed championship as a skip in 2005. His win-loss record was 10-3.

Would love to see Gushue get some competition out on the rock! Does everyone remember that a guy named Shawn Adams skipped a team outta there this year? He's had Brier success! If he's still out there, team Nichols up with him, throw in a talented young player like Colin Thomas and then Jamie Korab for old time's sake, and you have a very good back end and front end. This is pure speculation (and absolutely ridiculous speculation at that), and I also don't know any of these people personally. But it's plausible in theory (and I've heard worse rumours on here)! Everyone wants to default Nichols back to Gushue, but there are other guys out there too, and I personally would love to see a showdown!

Not many curlers with the opportunity to play with Homan would turn it down, especially considering her age and how much better she's going to get moving forward. Two Scotties titles at the age of 24 hasn't been done before. Sweeting is a terrific player and a team on the rise, but she's joining one that is already tops in Canada. I'm sure being the same age as Rachel and Emma was also a big factor because they can grow and get better together. Joanne has huge upside and her skill as a shooter has not been completely tapped yet. Playing with a shot-making wiz like Homan and a phenomenal third like Miskew will only force her to raise her game to another level. My only question is the chemistry...She seemed to have it with Val, but will she have any with her new team? What looks great on paper doesn't always translate on the ice. Will she get on with Rachel, Emma and Lisa? And how great will the stress become for Courtney if she starts to miss her husband on the other side of the country? How do you prepare yourself for something like this? Will it hinder her performance on the ice? These questions can only be answered with time. But I certainly wont blame her for giving it a crack. There is always the risk that things won't work out. I hope they do for her, but there is no guarantee.

Team Thomas have been in the final with Gushue the last couple of years. Don't think Adams has been able to put a team together to do it. Great players on Team Thomas too!
