Bottcher ..is he ready?
The only Teams Bottcher couldnt get past last year was Kevin Koe..
and Brock Virtue who has teamed up this season with Kevin Park ( they will be dangerous)
Charley Thomas has 2 Jr World golds and a good mixed doubles record
Dont know if his Team has matured enough to really challenge.. but his superior curling..
will definitely cause problems for the other teams..
Koe is the seasoned vet.. but 3 teams are hard after the Alberta title
Bottcher is the "next one" in Alberta...is it this year?

virtue
i wonder if virtue is regretting splitting with thomas last season. teamed up with blandford and when that didnt go well split with him
he's showing himself to be a very impatient person and must be hard to have on your team.
he's gonna find it very hard to find a team to curl with next season. The guy has all the talent in the world but im sure the word out is that if things dont go well he bolts.i doubt very much this line up with park is supposed to be long term.
kind of sad because for a while he looked like one of the brighter young up and coming talents but he's had to have burned a lot of bridges

Mr. Virtue would be a questionable choice to fill out a lineup on most teams. Do you think it's an accident that he departed from Charley's team and that with a new player as a replacement that Charley's team is having a better result this year? Or is it the other three players on Blandford's team that were all "the problem" causing that team's explosion.
Getting expelled from the Sask. Tankard final a couple years back, there's almost an endless list of incidents with Virtue being front and centre. Yes, he did and perhaps even does show some talent, but there's more to the game than talent....

teams that brock were a part of have done great before so he's not THAT big a problem. he had a great cash season in his second year in saskatchewan and was doing pretty good with his first team he had in alberta. obviously people work with him and it works out.
the problem is that he's always ditching teams when he's not winning enough. i could have seen the thomas rink doing just as well if he had stuck with them to be honest.
he's not the only hot head out there
the only thing for me is that he's no doubt now acquired a reputation for leaving when things are going rough and thats going to make it very hard for him to find a team next year.unless he really does plan on sticking with park for a while..in all honesty he might not have a choice

Heck, even when he is winning, he still ditches teams. He lost the Alberta Tankard final in 2012 only to announce two or three days later that he had formed a new team based out of Saskatchewan.
Guys like that always seem to find a team somehow but in the end, those tend to be late season pick ups and the relationship rarely lasts long.

That's a bit over-stated - he's been to a Brier, not multiple Briers.
And as for McEwen, it's hardly because he is a "team-sticker" that has left his Brier resume with an open spot. It's more the province that he's trying to win out of and represent. When he's lost the Manitoba final it has never been to a bunch of knee sliders.

back to the AB Tankard..
Last night the top 4 seeds easily breezed thru their games..
Koe- Lizmore -Thomas - and my pick to beat Koe-> Bottcher..
Kevin Park was thumped in their first game...
so was it a one-off poor start.. or are they just too far on the cinderella angle to actually impact this event ?
Maybe Brock's future father-in-law Park.. can get a great event out of him .. .
We'll see this afternoon as they face a Calgary Glencoe Team -Yablonski
Any streaming or webcasts available from Camrose to watch these guys??
.

hammer wins
Both Lizmore and Thomas won in the Extra.. so they face each other in the A final
Koe and Bottcher drop down to B
If they both win their next games.. they will go head to head
Friday afternoon..
Charley Thomas will outplay Lizmore tonight for the Q1-qualifier..

Hasn't made a dint in the action sitting in C playing out his last event life with Bawel

it is nice to see former junior champ and national jr. bronze medallist yablonski doing well here.
thomas i think could do well at the brier and he should give koe all he can handle in the page 1 v.s 2. its probably going to be a koe/thomas final and i'll be pulling for thomas.
can yablonski upset bottcher and make the page?well anything is possible and he beat some good teams to get here..maybe. bottcher is favorite for sure though

Cheering for Brendan as well. But being honest, the team seems to have regressed since bursting onto the scenes. I'm not sure what the problem is; maybe they overachieved before and caught people by surprise. Would love him to get on a roll and win it all, but right now they just aren't playing well enough. Maybe this comment will reverse jinx them and they'll prove me wrong.

Bottcher and Thomas have the guns to grab the title..
just super tough against a team full of years of high-level
challenges
Both the AB Tankard... SF and F are telecast Sunday
to most of Canada so we can at least watch and enjoy
the battle to topple the king..

Charley Thomas into the Final
Thanks Jason Hill- Edmonton Journal for the following:
quote: CAMROSE, Alta. — Charley Thomas made the comment earlier this week that in order for anyone to beat Kevin Koe, they would likely have to play the “game of their life.”
Thomas may have just done that on Saturday night in the 1-2 page playoff game of the 2016 Boston Pizza Cup Alberta men’s curling championship against the four-time provincial champion.
Thomas beat Koe 7-5 in a thriller that took extra ends, and will now move straight to Sunday’s final (2:30 p.m., Rogers Sportsnet).
“It’s amazing. We’ve put ourselves in the best spot we could ever hope for, and we just have to come out for one more game and give ‘er hell like we did tonight,” said Thomas.
“This is the first time I’ve beat him (Koe), and I feel pretty good about it. He comes to play against me every time. He still did today, he had a great game, I just made a few key shots to help save us.”
Thomas went toe-to-toe with the former Canadian and world champion in his first provincial men’s 1-2 page playoff game and will aim to win his first provincial men’s championship.
Koe may still be the favourite to win the provincial crown, but Thomas and his Glencoe Curling Club rink featuring third Nathan Connolly, second Brandon Klassen and lead D.J. Kidby are turning a lot of heads with their red-hot shot making abilities.
Tied 3-3 in the eighth end, Thomas made arguably the shot of the week with a run back triple takeout that secured two points and a 5-3 lead heading into the final end.
It was a gutsy call, but Thomas has shown time and time again he isn’t afraid of that big shot.
“We knew it was there, it was a matter of whether we wanted to peel one of theirs out and give them a single or if we wanted to go for it,” said Thomas.
“We still had one more life if we missed the shot, but we’re playing to win right now,” he said.
“I know it’s an upset for us to beat Kevin tonight, but we’ve had a good season. We’re ranked eighth in Canada.”
A sign that Thomas’s rink is maturing into a world class team came in the second end.
His draw for two was heavy, and he had to settle for a single. Against a team like Koe, you can’t afford to make mistakes, but Thomas put it behind him and curled lights out the rest of the way.
“We met after I threw it, and we all agreed we had to move on, and that’s what curling is all about,” said Thomas. “There will be misses out there, and it’s how you react to those misses that will dictate your success.
“We’ve came in with a really good attitude, and I’m proud of how the guys have played. We put our heads down and went to work.”
.

Thomas may have had the "game of his life" as Hills says, but team Koe - and really, mostly Koe himself - was not nearly as precise as on Friday.
What Hills calls the "shot of the week" was only possible because Koe came top 12 trying to throw a guard! He was a little heavy on a couple of other draws, as well, and I thought also made a couple of questionable calls.
Not to take anything away from team Thomas, as they did play very well, really only giving Koe something to work with 2 or 3 times; Koe just didn't capitalize on those chances, and Thomas did make the most of his.
