You would think brining in Simmons at 3rd would make the most sense.

One of the two best current curling names (the other being Miskew)...

That's what Bottcher thought too.

I agree but this is a very different situation. Laycock and Simmons have played together in the past and had success.

he should grab a hartung or a heidt. prob not his old skipper - there is a reason they are not curling together anymore.
Yeh Squiggsy - not sure of the reason. Could be either direction, I guess. Indeed. Simmons has had success. Laycock too. Do you think they will resurrect their association? My gut sez no, but I don't know the behind the scenes stuff. Yeah. Good summary. Thnx.

Is the reason because Blake Macdonald retired and the 3rd position on Kevin Koe was open, and Pat spent the next five years on that team, winning two Briers, finishing 2nd in another, and getting to be Team Canada two years in a row, while Steve stayed in Saskatoon and started to skip his own team?

The last year they played together, Simmons threw fourth stones while Laycock skipped and threw third stones.

Didn't take long for Flasch to revive his love for the sport. And spend time with family and friends. Has a new team already.

This is rather odd. I'm guessing laycock wanted a shakeup and tried to be respectful about the release of Flasch. Just that Colton didn't get the memo.

New squad for next year: Skip Colton Flasch, Third Kevin Marsh, Second Dan Marsh, Lead Trent Knapp
tweeted an hour ago @TeamFlasch
Marshes from Korte's team. Knapp from Bryden's. Pretty big switch up. Good luck Team Flasch. #6secondPeels
now we just gotta figure out who is heading Laycock's way.

Is there another Muyres brother? In the big picture though, how will this affect Laycock and CTRS points standings when he loses Flasch's points? He better pick up a player that brings points with him.

The same time the team change announcement was made, Colton made a personal post saying similar things about friends and family and time, but that he would soon be announcing a new team with some great friends.
There's a big difference in the time/life commitment to playing with a team like Laycock where they are essentially full-time athletes with much more travel and then all the behind the scenes work practicing and training.
As for lineup change, this doesn't affect Laycock's CTRS points at all. They will start ranked a little lower on the Order of Merit, but they will still safely be in the Grand Slams and other events. As long as the team keeps 3 of 4 players, they keep 100% of their CTRS points towards the Trials/Pre-Trials.

I wouldn't rule out Simmons curling with Laycock. Remember Laycock is in a decent position to get into the ROTR. Pretty attractive to join a team in a position like that, and attractive for a team in that position with an opening to add a strong free agent like Simmons.

So tweet about Matt Dunstone playing 3rd for Laycock at Elite 10 in Port Hawkesbury.
Checked his "long" history on WCT site - he's only 21 and excelled with a stable junior team. This year he swapped for a whole new fresh team - so he's probably willing to make the big leap to top team. I suspect this is an "audition". We'll see if he makes the cut.

Maybe that crack on ice reporting staff can actually just ask Laycock what his plans are for his new player.
