Bring on the corn
Sports is all about nostalgia these days, outdoor NHL, retro uniforms, and on and on. How about the World Curling tour designate one of its major bonspiels as a Corn Classic , with all modern rules in place but sweeping must done with a standardised corn broom. I am sure Arnold Asham can come up with something. Thoughts.

I don't know about a standard tour event (where OOM points are at stake), but I think one of the "exhibition" type events (Continental Cup, GSOC Elite 10, TSN Skins Game) it would be a really cool idea.
If not for a whole event, then at least for a specific game or two. Or, if not that then maybe a "hot shots" type event.
I like it though...especially if the players/teams wore throwback sweaters!

That would be fun to see. I think they might have to have replacements on standbys with Hebert of Flasch sweeping with them ;)

2/3 of the current players wouldn't know how to use corn.

Probably at least 95% wouldn't know how to use corn. Those that would know too old to sweep effectively.

Sweeping with a corn broom ain't no easy task. I couldn't believe how much easier it was when I first switched from corn to hair. Never picked up a corn broom again, and don't miss it in the least!! It was too much work!!

probably easier for these guys, they work out, are in great shape and don't drink and smoke on the ice - lol.
Bet they could make the rink rat snap!

As someone who started curling with corn, used synthetic corn (Mark 2 Cat was an excellent sweeping tool, just really loud), went back to corn and then switched to a brush (as all 70's juniors did to emulate Gowsell) I can safely state that gym monkeys aside, today's top men and women curlers would look pretty foolish sweeping with corn.
It requires not only a completely different set of muscles, it's a totally different motion requiring both arms and wrists to be in sync.
And let's not forget the footwork. Putting on a pair of grippers and running/hopping after a takeout while swinging corn? Sorry folks, there'd be spectators pissing themselves with laughter. You have to be able to glide effortlessly, with speed and balance, beside the stone on a slider in order to then apply the speed and force of a corn style broom. There's a reason why brushes took over-they are way easier to use-still to this day-and more folks are effective with them than they ever were, or could be, with corn.
Plus let's face it, todays curlers have hissy fits over a piece of lint on the ice. Imagine the whining from the Slammers if pulp covered the sheets!
