Sad news about the passing of one of curling greats...who won the brier & worlds 4 times in the days of corn brooms and 12 ends and likely had to pay their own way...

An awesome man and a great story teller. The article tells of how he spoke at banquets in front of large crowds and at very prestigious events. The first time I saw him speak was at a mixed bonspiel run by a club called the "Fraternal Order of Eagles" in Regina. Sam would talk to anyone that cared about curling. Even a bunch of recreational curlers and I loved that about him. He shared his passion, he had a lot to share, and I'll never forget the stories he told and the laughter it created. R.I.P Sam it was an honor to listen to you.

Sam came to speak at a sprtsmans' dinner in Quesnel. He mentioned a fee but when I told him we didn't have any budget for speakers and funds were going to charity he was glad to come and gave a wonderful speech. A real gentleman. RIP
