Three announcements from Sportsnet:
Kevin Martin retires from curling and will join Sportsnet in the booth for next season replacing Richard Hart and will become a Grand Slam ambassador working to grow the in-arena and fans experience for the sport.
The 2014/15 Grand Slam of Curling Schedule announced, with events in Selkirk, Manitoba, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Players Championship in Toronto with a 5th event added to the schedule in March, The Elite 10 in Fort McMurray, Alberta!
Looking forward to a great 2014/15 Grand Slam season!

The Elite 10 - Bear Bows Out
Two interesting announcements in one press release by the World Curling Tour.
Good summary of Kevin Martin's achievements. His position as a pioneer and leader (and no doubt investor) in the WCT underpins this article.
I would like to know more about the Elite 10 - the 5th and newest Grand Slam. And a million bux. Wowzers

Smart move...retire on top rather than people watching & asking"why is he still playing?"

now that Martin has made it official , he's quitting
competitive curling and sitting in the broadcast booth as a analyst well, good for Kevin could you ever picture him and Russ Howard in the same room discussing 'shots"? nope either could I, ahhh I like to see Kevin over Mr. "homer" Harris anyways calling plays.....

nice blog from Gerry.....
whether or not the "Ole Bear" pulls off yet another Grand Slam victory later against Jacobs , yet to be seen folks regardless Kevin Martin will be a outstanding ambassador in his venture...myself it is a final glimpse to see Martin in action on the ice...next time will be on the sidelines or the broadcast booth

Nice draw against Mike in the ee. .. Typical Martin shot for the last 30 years. Kennedy and Hebert looked pretty happy. ....
Hope he wins this morning. Would be a fitting swan song going out with a win...probably best curler i have watched....
I dont like saying anyone was best. Once a team acheives a certain level I give them a 10. Martin team has been a 10 for years, like Howards, Stoughton, Jonses, Homan, Koe, Ferbey, Burtnyk, Richardsons, Duguid, Northcott, Folk, Werenuch, Linholm, Ulsrud, Hackner, Edin, Roberts, Norberg. And more...

The National Post features Kevin Martin
An interesting article and accompanying forum on the National Post dealing with Kevin Martin. The usual anti-curling comments by some of the troglodytes, but mostly positive.

The 8th end has the makings of a sentimental end ... Like Arnies last round at the Masters.... Bet all the teams come out...

I'm interested to hear people's thoughts on how long Kevin will be in retirement.
Rich Hart only managed three seasons out before being lured back.
If he's not already back at it by the time it comes around, I find it hard to believe that Kevin will not get some sort of offer, a la Gushue/Russ Howard, for the PyeongChang Trials in the 2017/18 season.
