Looks like Canada won this morning. I wouldn't compare JJ to J-Mo - Kaitlyn will be relieved to curl with her again!

Doubles Teams
I thought the whole idea of this mixed-doubles is to get more countries involved. Why only 8 countries (includes Russia rep).

I thought that strange as well. 8 teams, with 4 making the playoffs. Why didn't they go with 10 teams for doubles?

Or 2 pools of 8 if they're looking to allow more countries to participate.

NICE of you folks to simply add any number of countries you deem fit to the mix but...... don't they have to QUALIFY FIRST?

Exactly. Allow more countries to qualify. There's only 3 Euro teams, 4 if you count the Russians. Should be 8 from Europe alone.

Perhaps restricted being first time and want to get a feel for how much time and facilities to dedicate . And how it is received by the Olympic fan base.

And if it were not for two teams, namely: Kasner/Kaithoff and Courtney/Carruthers Canada would not be participating in this event today.

If they had more than 8 teams they would need at least another couple of days to complete I would think. There are only 4 sheets of ice. This event already has to start early so that is done before the team competitions start..

They had 39 teams at worlds in 9 days.
16 doing old math is 5 maybe 6 days max.
I don't see the problem

Not going to compare with worlds as I don't have the info on number of sheets used or the format. I know that they do not want a team to play 3 games in a day at the Olympics if at all possible. Would probably have to do that by adding teams. Anyway I think with only 6 days keeping the number to 8 is fine.....

I wish the Olympics would scrap mixed doubles curling and just do mixed ordinary curling instead. That's how a ton of people play curling now, and it's a great format.
This five rock per end stuff just doesn't appeal to me. Eight rocks provide so much more depth to the strategy.

I've tried to get to like Mixed Doubles, but I just can't. It feels gimmicky and lacking in deep strategy. Every end develops the same way, with a race to the 4 foot, and a series of freezes, taps and tight guards. It typically takes some misses before we see a different sort of end. The variety of types of ends and range of strategy that we see in the 'standard' game just isn't there.

At least they ditched the "Hey, let's make everyone deliver on a shot clock so we can blast music in the stadium between shots" plan.
Thank god.

FOR obvious reasons, Mixed is far more difficult/precise than Regular curling.
Shooting percentages are therefore normally 5 to 10 percentage points lower.

I would argue with the 'more difficult' assessment.

even though canada is 4-1 right now..i'd still be surprised if they won gold. think that'll be either norway or russia. maybe switzerland. canada could medal..could get to the final but i don't think they'll get gold
