Qualifications process for the Elite 10 as shown on the Grand Slam website
"The top 10 men’s teams based on the World Curling Tour’s year-to-date ranking system as of Feb. 13, 2017, will receive invites."
How did Nedohin get into the event and why would they not go down the list if one of the top 10 did not want to participate.
Really want to see Nedohin and his team play but just does not seem fair to teams who play the Tour, but who fall outside of the top 10, not get an invite.

Both Edin (money list) and Gushue (OOM) are playing...some teams have chosen to play in Aberdeen as this event will not give anyone CTRS points.

While I understand that the slams need to think about making money and bringing people in I am with the people who object to this superstar team idea. Would have been great going with a team that wouldn't have made it but was close or maybe even give a top junior team an invite. Get them exposure to the fans, get them valuable experience at this level.
I probably will enjoy watching jeff again , however I feelke this was a wasted opportunity.

Doesn't it seem odd that teams can get CTRS points this week by playing in Scotland against non-Canadian teams but not by playing in Canada against largely Canadian teams? Not blaming the teams for doing this as it is clearly to their advantage except money-wise.

Sorry I was not clear, forgot that this was skins, was more wondering why Mark/team gushue never got invited to the tsn skins game as he had the team in first place all year

I did not realize CTRS points were not awarded for this event, now I understand the field.

It looks like Geoff Walker is resting his shoulder for Team Gushue this week though, and his old third Tom Sallows is the one that's taken over the lead. Looks like everyone's speculation on this was wrong.
The "old timer all star team" is a fun idea for this event, though I'm almost surprised we aren't seeing Team Jennifer Jones here this year since she's not in Beijing. I mean, after the good PR with Homan last year...

Isn't the turtle in a bowl?
Playing a skins game for no money. Now that is really exciting for fans.
PH has a population of app 3000. 5% of Cdns are into curling so that explains 100 people in the stands, The other 50 are still shoveling snow,

Team Jacobs
Was looking forward to seeing Brad Jacobs play here this week but after their boorish behavior at the hotel, I hope they lose every game. Hear the Maritime Inn wasn't good enough for them and they made a big show and embarrassed the staff over their discomfort for having to stay in the hotel. Heads getting a little too big?

I'm not a big fan of this format at all. Every end is exactly the same - a bazillian rocks in play down the center line and in the 4 foot.

Why does everyone seem to have it in for The Juice Monkeys?
Anyways, another early checkout seems to be Brad Gushue - kinda burnt out from the Brier festivities, Geoff Walker injured. Will try to slink out of Port Hawk and get some rest and recovery before worlds.
Goo would have loved nothing more than to smother the life outta now curling executive Jeff Stoughton but Jeff held tight - made some nice shots including a fabulously delicate chip out with his final stone to secure victory over The Goos.
Nothing will replace what happened when Goo knocked off the immortal Stoughton at the Olympic trials - but as most conclude it was more Russ Howard running the Good Ship Goo and acting as Gushue's brain.
Other poor performer here seems to be Reid Carruthers. Whats up wid dat? Unfortunately Mikey didn't have enough points to qualify.
The "Juice Monkeys" have a bit of rep for bad behavior. Just ask any curling person who has to work with them. If indeed it was true they behaved badly at the hotel, the GSOC should fine them or at least give them a talking to. These hotels also put up sponsor money at these events. What did they expect, the Ritz Carleton or Trump Tower?!
Team Gushue came here as he likely had to fulfill some obligations to GSOC. His focus should be on the worlds and to test out Sallows who may be playing quite a lot at the worlds. Likely he is just as happy to go home early. Not like there are any points to be had here!

The 2006 olympic trials were referenced, and if memory serves me correctly, was it not Jamie Korab that Gushue benched to install Russ Howard as captain?

Korab played lead on the Olympic team and Mike Adam stepped aside to be 5th so Russ Howard could play.

McEwen did have enough points to qualify but turned down the invite. He's in Scotland playing in an event where CTRS points are available. His trials position greatly improved at the Brier between his 3rd place finish and Gushue winning, but at the time the decision needed to be made his position was less secure.

So now ML has decreed Team Jacobs are steroid users? Wonderful, keep up the good work Loser. Please don't attempt to be disingenuous and suggest Juice Monkey could mean anything else. I have no doubt you would never call them that to their face. People talk big hiding behind a keyboard.

Would be pretty funny if the Stoughton team won this thing.
