Boycot Sponsors & Worlds
There has been some talk about NS boycotting the up coming WORLDS in HALIFAX I would suggest we not do that. This will only hurt the local Host committee. I would suggest we attend and show our displeasure with POSTERS and SIGNS. A group of concerned fans and players are organizing and will be starting a new Facebook & Twitter page to keep everyone up to date. Since it looks like the CCA does not care to listen sorry sponsors one of the things we are looking at is Boycott days for Tim Horton's (Sorry Mark) Ford Scotties M&M to name a few. BC Curlers and Fans we will be looking for your support also your gals are now relegated. NB PEI NL YK NWT NU and any others that feel the need to help keep the Brier what it was meant to be (not just another Grand Slam Event) rally your people Stay tuned as we try to get organized as we take on WARREN HANSON and the RED JACKETS of which 3 are from our home province Nova Scotia Hugh Avery Shirley Osburne and Marilyn Neily
OUR NEW Facebook Page 2016 No Relegation
Our New Twiiter Page is norelegation

There's certainly a lot of displeasure in your post. I hope things work out. The local host committee is only doing their jobs and they need the support of the community. Good luck.

Seems like a very Canadian response, but how exactly do you boycott ford, not drive your car or just not buy one every year. As for the other sponsors except tims, they have done a lot for curling in a short period I wouldn't blame them for this.

You will only hurt the hundreds of volunteers from Nova Scotia who have worked months to prepare this event. Go to support the local host committee, our curling sponsors and our Canadian team. Everybody knows that teams that did not qualify are upset. What most people do not realise is that those teams are mostly upset about not playing well enough in the pre-qualifying round. Most people want to earn there way in to make it worthwhile.

Boycott Worlds? Boycott Sponsors? Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
Or you know.... we could just not have relegation and then this argument doesn't exist.

yes, because it would have been GREAT to have Nunuvut in the Scotties and brier. We could have watched them get blown out 15-0 every game

How was this ever allowed to happen, 30% of Govenors from NS, that seems like fair representation across the country. Not.

I wish people would read the post we are very clear we do NOT want people to Boycott the worlds. We also understand that some of the sponsors have expressed concern of how this whole thing went down so any boycott of the sponsor will be our last resort. I want to be very clear that we do not blame the sponsors but if the CCA won't listen to the curling world maybe they will listen to the guys that pay the bills

Then why did you put boycott sponsors as the thread title if that's last resort?

CC won't listen to anyone, people have been expressing that they are upset all year and cc hasn't even responded. The only way they will listen is if the curlers start boycotting again. Unfortunately the only teams wanting to Boycott are the ones facing relegation.

Isn't the whole point of the Bier and Scotties is to give every team that wants to compete in it is given the opportunity to do so at a given level (Regionals- Provincial-Brier/Scotties Process)? By relegating It would be GREAT to seem Nunavut there. Maybe they would get blown for a year or two. At least they'd be getting experience on great ice, learning from some of the best teams in the country. Nunavut is already training junior curlers and sending them to junior nationals. It's been a tough run for them so far, but they are gaining valuable experience and are curling in a competitive environment. So who knows maybe when they graduate to adult play they'll surprise a lot of people and win a bunch of games. Don't under estimate the territories (e.i Jamie Koe.)
Does the North not have one the largest amount of youth in the country right now? So why are we relegating these territories when instead we could be trying to grow the sport there.
Before we go and think about how competitive things are going to be at a national championship or how relegation works or who is relegated in a given year I think it's important that we really take a strong look at what does this mean for the growth of curling (are clubs staying open? are Junior curlers quitting the game?).

The point of the brier is to find a national champion. If it was participation by province, why has there been a N.O. rep for so many years. Provincial boundaries are an easy way to get individual reps, but just because the Canadian govt. drew a line through NWT shouldn't mean Nunuvat should get a rep. Once any "region" is good enough, they will make it through relegation. Just another portion of the playdown process. One thing though. Teams that participate in the releg round should be included in ALL the Brier/ Scotties festivities.

Your last point is definitely a fix that needs to happen for 2016. How does a region get better though without being able to play in the national championship? If were talking about the north, none of the teams up there will probably get the points to compete the slams or top WCT events that offer a very high level of competition in which the Brier and Scotties have.
So if relegation remains how do they get better? How does the sport grow? Yeah you are right, Relegation looks like another qualifying process. That doesn't mean that it should be there though.
Like I said before. The Brier and Scotties are unique because it gives every team in Canada to potentially compete in the national championship. and Yes the Brier determines are national champion, but it also makes sure that every team that wants to try for it can. I'm sure the curlers on Nunavut want to represent their territory and should be given the chance to do so just like Nova Scotia should be able to have a team each in year in the main field of the Brier.
I will admit that if relegation was removed I don't see a 15 team round robin happening. Plus attendance would probably have to increase for CC events.

If there is no relegation, and the brier Scotties must stay at 12 teams, then, don't go by provincial lines. Change to regions.
For example, NFLD, as good as they are, should have to play more than 2 games to qualify for the brier. So, regionalize the east coast??? and the Territories.

LOL - ummm... you should be at your best at the national championship, not use it as training grounds.
Do you think Eugenie Bouchard and Milos Raonic are a product of the grand slams? No...they worked hard off court, played the smaller events and peaked for the grand slams.
If you want to be in the main event, but are relegated...get better. Prove you deserve to be there. The national event is not the place to get better, it is the time that you need to have already gotten better for.

This thread is about a protest of relegation.
I'm sure people on this forum and site have worked on a board in the past. You would realize quickly, that CC takes its direction form the board, which is comprised of member associations. If the board voted down relegation, then there would be no relegation, simple as that. Curling Canada, like the OCA, MCA etc are the ones that TAKE direction from their board members on maters such as this, not the other way around. They may feel strongly one way and may make an opinion, but understand how the system is constructed. In fact, they are listed as observers in this process, NOT as active voters in this regard.
Before boycotting sponsors or events, have you or anyone else, sat down with your member assoication and got the entire story as to why relegation was accepted, and if so why? And if it was a case of they voted against the motion, and the majority passed the motion, then guess what, that is part of the process.
Have you done this? I would suggest before boycotting sponsors, think twice. Curling is at an interesting point, The Dominion Insurance was bought by Travellers, Tim's just got bought by an American Company. For provinces that are stating how hard it is for their teams to compete due to lack of funding, sponsorship etc I find it interesting that you would want to boycott the good loyal sponsors that curling has today. Sponsors have unlimited choice on how they want to spend their money, so draging them into a fight with member assoications (which is where this fight should be) on relegation is the wrong attitude IMHO.
I just find this whole bashing the CC so tiring, when you are really pointing arrows at the wrong people. Go talk to your member association.

Stop trying to make the Brier another grand slam the Brier is to be the best from each province and yes some are better than others. Alberta was not all that great this year New Brunswick was one guard from taking down Team Canada Nova Scotia has won the Brier in the last 15 years. So don't knock a province just because they don't have the depth that some of the others have. Look at BC girls this year
The Brier should be the best from EACH Province no exception!!!!!!!!!!!!
