Shanghai / National scheduling
I'm debating whether or not to buy a ticket to the National in Sault Ste. Marie in December. I want to see as many of the top women's teams play in one event as I can, and this is the only event of that type within what I'd call acceptable driving distance from me.
The concern I'm having is the presence on the schedule of the Shanghai Masters, a new event with a $260,000 (CAN) purse that finishes on Dec. 4. The National starts on Dec. 6. I'm worried that many of the teams will choose one event over the other, not wanting to have to fly half the way around the world and then try to adjust to the 12-hour time difference in just 2 days (ok, sort of almost 3 days since they'll fly over the Intl. Date Line).
Am I right to worry?

Are you sure? It's still listed on the World Curling Tour schedule.
Can anyone else confirm?

thanks
Thanks for the info CCT. That's very helpful.
By the way, was this almost-clash with the National the reason for the postponement, or was it something else?

Nothing to do with the National, pioneering work has its speed bumps

Not much different than most weekends on Tour. If it did go, it's not like it would have been that terrible for teams. With the Final being in China, it happens 12-13 hours ahead of time in Ontario, so a half day there.
With the Grand Slam starting on the 6th, it means 1 draw on the Tuesday. Teams often request a later start meaning they could play Wedensday the 7th. This means 3.5 days between events for teams travel and while it's not ideal, it's definitely still doable.
