I have heard that Rick Patzke was offered the CEO position. He has accepted.

Yes, Rick Patzke is the now the CEO of the USCA. In addition the board approved a $2 dues increase for all categories. The strategic plan was also approved and is available for review at
http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Curling/.../Strategic-Plan
There was a policy to relax the cresting rules for athletes. The details will be worked out by staff and the AAC.

The dues increase will not go down well with member clubs. That is a nearly 7% increase for adult members, coming on the heels of a $1 increase last year. This rate of dues growth is unsustainable.

I don't think that most paying members have a clue of the breakdown of their dues. They pay x amount to be a member of y club. The club pays for each member to their region/state and the USCA. At least that is my understanding and opinion.

Webstreaming is back in the budget
As long as webstreaming is back in the budget as indicated, I'm fine with a one-time dues increase. There was no dues increase last year, the last one of $1 was in 2013-14. I'm a big fan of dumping the archaic cresting rules too.
Jeff, I think you would be very surprised how much discussion there has been at some very large clubs regarding members that don't want to pay their USCA dues. This strategic plan appears to address a lot of the concerns that I personally have had while trying to start a new club, while at the same time addressing others that I have heard from members of well established clubs. I hope the board holds to it.

That may change as club budgets get squeezed. Clubs are forced to raise dues or eat the increased cost. A 10% increase in dues in 3 years is significant, and club boards may start to ask questions, even if members don't. Raising dues repeatedly in an organization without explanation to the membership entails significant risk.

Up until 2010 we (the club) would pay dues out of pocket for all of our members. Then Vancouver happened and we doubled in size (140 to 280) and that got too expensive. We now put USCA, USWCA and GNCC dues on member invoices as separate line items and members are billed directly for them (above and beyond our own club dues).

Members at my club as of last year were already discussing what the dues they currently paid got them. It clearly didn't get them webstreaming. And the "ability to participate in club playdowns" is meaningless for 95+% of the membership at the club. If there are great benefits (and one may be the publicity every four years from the Olympics that helps get lots of new members), it hasn't been articulated well. Providing webstreaming coverage (and not just some recorded curling on a random sports channel many people don't have) would be a very visible/accessible thing that would be easily understood by the general membership.

Where clubs do not itemize dues, I suspect that most curlers have no idea that part of their dues goes to state, regional or national organization. When dues are itemized like, curlers may start to wonder what they are getting for those dues -- not easy to find real value that those dues provide.

There is usually a point during our club business meetings where someone poses the question, and it's not just the new members that ask, either.

Middle man
Great idea in putting the dues as a line item!
Wouldn't it be nice if the clubs weren't stuck being the middleman and owning the responsibility of getting the USCA dues from the members to the USCA?
