Brandon hotels
Strange request but getting desperate. My son's team just qualified for the brier and we are now trying to book some rooms. Some families are staying 45 minutes away in b and b. Another 40 minutes away.
I'm hoping someone on here from Brandon knows someone or of someone who works at one of the local hotels. All of them are sold out but I know from experience sometimes the hotels will hold a block of rooms aside for big events. IF anybody out there in curling zone world can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Winning the lottery and buying a motorhome is my plan B!
Thanks for the tip. I'll call in the morning. If you're going to be at the brier I'll buy the first beer.
Better book my rooms for Kingston soon.

Have you son's team check with their provincial curling association . Most CAs ( so I thought) prebooked rooms for families. If yours did not , give them hell ,

They did not, and from what I gather have not in the past. We should have been more confident or proactive. Lesson learned.
It was never a problem when we went to Calgary a few years ago so never thought to book ahead. They have 15000 rooms vs 1300 in Brandon.

I would have thought that blocks of rooms would be set aside for the teams that qualify and their families. Is this not normal practice?

I've personally called or emailed 8-10 hotels, waiting to hear back from a few more, and most replies are we are full and not even taking names for a waiting list. A few put me on the waiting list but did say it wasn't looking good.
I also though hotels set aside rooms, similar to arenas and concert tickets, and release them once they know they've got a big enough demand for more. That way they make more money on the early sales. It creates the illusion of a higher demand than there really is, keeping the prices higher. Maybe not the case here as they have so few rooms to go around.

3 rooms to a team is ridiculous
Likely only a few teams will have reserved rooms for their family - Koe Howard Carruthers [/B][/QUOTE]
That's just it. Hindsight I will book for the coming years. This year we weren't being too cocky or over confident enough to pre-book. We didn't think we needed to. Maybe CC should block 8 rooms for the team, coaches family and friends, even if it's just 3 they cover, and if the families don't go or don't want them, put them back into inventory for the fans.
Maybe some rooms will open up from the teams that DID book and don't make it.

Just got confirmation March 1-8th so that gets us to the playoff round anyway. Hoping rooms will open up later for 9th-11th. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

When the Vancouver Olympics were going on, I was on a trip to Los Angeles. While there, I went to a taping of a talk show, the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. As it went on, he slowly became aware that the studio audience had a lot of Canadians in it, and at the end asked all the Canadians to raise their hands. More than half the crowd did so. They were all Vancouver residents who had rented out their own homes and then fled south for a vacation.
During the show they also did a bit about how they didn’t understand what the hell curling was.
