Team based in England looking for a player
We are looking for a 4th player to enter a team in the 2015 English Mens Curling Championship. The active curling community in England is quite small, so we have decided to post an ad here on the off chance that there are some ex-curlers from Canada or the US now living in England or an English national living abroad who might be interested in competing this year.
In order to be eligible the person must be:
A) a curler must have been born in England, OR must have a parent born in England, OR must have been ordinarily resident in England for a continuous period of at least two years immediately prior to the date of the Championships or the International competition, OR must be married to one born in England and be living in England at the time of the Championships or International competition AND
B) be a Full Member of the ECA.
C) No person who has represented another country which is a member of the WCF in an International competition shall be eligible to play for England until at least two years after their last representative appearance for that other country. (from the English Curling Association bylaws)
The play downs are scheduled for the weekend of February 22nd, 2015 in Dumfries, Scotland. The start date will depend upon the number of teams.
Ideally were are looking for someone at the 2nd position, but are open to other options depending upon the persons experience and abilities.
Please PM if you are interested in discussing this opportunity.

Would you not have an incredibly better chance of finding someone willing to play from Scotland?

We are looking there as well, but the English vs. Scottish origin aspect of the rules creates an interesting wrinkle.

Well, if you know any fine English women looking for a husband and are willing to marry me, I'd be happy to make the move.
I have references. For the curling. The ladies... not so much.
Joking aside, good luck. I'll see that a few ex-pats I know on this side of the ocean hear of your search.

Sure, if you want to PM me we could talk. Wales actually has a separate qualification system. So, you might not be eligible for England but you might be for Wales. I realize it sounds confusing to Canadians, but because each nation in the UK has its own membership in the WCF, Wales, Scotland and England each operate as separate countries for the purposes of playdowns. So, if your Dad was born in Wales, you would be eligible for the Welsh national team.

hello, just seeing this as I was flipping through. I reside in Ontario and have curled all of my life here....from juniors on up. Have you filled this position yet?

We actually just filled the spot late last week. But if you are interested in curling in England, let me know. It is a small curling community here, but a lot of Canadian ex-pats. And teams are always looking to add experienced players.

thanks for getting back. I just thought I would take a shot and see if you needed anyone still. I actually live in Canada (Ontario) but was born in England so had eligibility and thought I would try and jump in. Have had some success in the game and thought perhaps I could try my hand in the homeland. Thanks again.
