By Connor Simms, #4 World Ranked Cory Thiesse/Korey Dropkin are on a roll this week in Kitchener-Waterloo at the Mixed Doubles Super Series. They look to win their second event of the season, winning the Victoria Mixed Doubles Cashspiel, going a perfect 7-0. They took on Ontario's Megan Smith/Dylan Niepage in the semi-final Saturday evening. Smith/Niepage went 3-1 through the round, finishing in second place in pool B. THiesse/Dropkin started with the hammer due to their better round robin record. In the first end, Thiesse/Dropkin got a big score of four points, making a nose double. An unfortunate result from Smith/Niepage's last resulted in a steal of four after just missing the runback and running the opponent stone into the button. Thiesse/Dropkin added one more after Smith/Niepage played a shot that might not have been there. It was handshakes after the fourth end, with Smith/Niepage adding two with an open draw, making the score 9-2. Thiesse/Dropkin finished 4-0 in the 10-team qualifying round. In their opening game, Thiesse/Dropkin defeated McKenna Nathan/Daniel Krowchuk (Sarnia, ON) 9-1, then won 5-4 against Terri Weeks/Sam Steep (Kitchener, ON) and 9-1 against Michelle Butler/Jerry Butler (Guelph, ON). Thiesse/Dropkin won 8-6 against Brunton/Pietrangelo in their final qualifying round match. They will face the winner of Minnesota's Sarah Anderson/Andrew Stopera vs Ontario's Kira Brunton/Victor Pietrangelo in the other semi-final, happening tomorrow at 10:00 am Eastern Time (ET).
