Canadian teams fill out men's playoff bracket
![]() Four Canadian men's teams (Photo: Anil Mungal/GSOC) will be in action in Saturday afternoon's quarterfinals. By: Cameron Sallaj The men's playoff bracket has been filled out at the 2025 AMJ Players' Championship with four teams advancing out of "Pool Canada" into the quarterfinal round. In Friday's nights Draw 15, Team Matt Dunstone (3-2; Winnipeg, MB) and Team Bruce Mouat (4-1; Sitrling, SCO) simplified things by each winning their respective games, eliminating the need for any tiebreakers Saturday morning. For the Dunstone rink, with third Colton Lott, second E. J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden, they had a rollercoaster game against the previously undefeated Team John Epping (4-1; Sudbury, ON), trading threes and twos to sit tied at five after five ends of play. Following a blank in six, Dunstone got a single back in the seventh to lead 6-5 coming home. Not liking his chances in an extra, John Epping attempted an angle runback on his final stone of the game for the win but could not remove the Dunstone rock from scoring position. This gave the Brier silver medalists a 7-5 win and a guaranteed spot in the playoffs thanks to a strong last stone draw total. The other men's game was also a tight affair with Mouat's world champion men from Scotland swapping singles with Team Marco Hoesli (2-3; Glarus, SUI) for the first six ends to sit level at three all. In seven, the Scotts tacked another single on the board before playing a dominant eighth, leaving Hoesli no shot to remove their stone off the button. This 5-3 win allowed Mouat to take a direct bye to the semifinals thanks to the loss by Epping two sheets over. Setting the stage for playoff Saturday, Team Dunstone earned the fifth seed through the round robin and will take on #4 Team Mike McEwen (3-2; Saskatoon, SK) while #3 Team Epping face #6 Team Brad Jacobs (3-2; Edmonton, AB) in two all-Canadian affairs. The winners of these games will move into the semifinals at 7:30 pm ET against Team Yannick Schwaller (4-1; Geneva, SUI) and Mouat respectively. On the women's side, #4 Team Rachel Homan (4-1; Ottawa, ON) match up against #5 Team Sayaka Yoshimura (3-2; Sapporo, JPN) while #3 Team Anna Hasselborg (4-1; Sundbyberg, SWE) play #6 Team Ha Seung-youn (3-2; Chuncheon, KOR) at 11:30 am ET. Team Kim Eun-jung (4-1; Gangneung, KOR) and Team Silvana Tirinzoni (4-1; Aarau, SUI) await the winners of these matches.
