Edin taking Worlds Prep to Swift Current

Sweden's Niklas Edin will represent Sweden at the BKT Tires World Curling Championship in Moose Jaw next week.

Edin, with Oskar Eriksson at third, Rasmus Wrana, and Christoffer Sundgren on the front end, came to Saskatchewan early for the Curling Stadium Speedy Creek Shoot-out. They will take on James Ballance of Okotoks in the opening draw on Thursday.

For Edin, the season has not been typical. The team dropped to 13th on the World Curling Rankings, which means they are outside of qualifying for the end-of-season AMJ Players' Championship.

Without a title on the season, their best finish was runner-up at the Oslo Cup in September. Edin comes into the weekend with a 32-27 record on the season.

Edin twice reached the semifinals this season, at the Baden Masters in August and the Astec Safety Challenge in January.

Balance brings a young team to the event, coming in with a 12-28 record on the season as they get their feet wet on the tour. Balance, with Beau Cornelson at third, Nathan Kelba and Chris Pratt on the front end came within one game of reaching the Boston Pizza Cup, losing a C-Qualifier game.

Edin continues on Friday against Jayden King (London, ON) at 10 am Mountain Time and Ethan Sampson (Chaska, MN) at 5:30 pm.

Edin faces Jacob Libbus (Edmonton, AB) on Saturday at 10 am and finishes pool play against Riku Yanagisawa (Karuizawa Japan) at 5:30pm.
