Lukas Hostmaelingen (Oslo, NOR) won 7-6 over Italy's Stefano Gilli in the Final of the World Junior Curling Championships, held February 17 - 24, 2024 in Lohja, Finland. To advance to the championship game, Hostmaelingen won 10-4 over Wesley Wendling (Wausau, USA) in the semifinals of the 2024 World Junior Curling Championships in Lohja, Finland;
Hostmaelingen finished 7-2 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hostmaelingen defeated Benny Kapp (Fuessen, GER) 8-7, then went on to lose 8-7 against Wendling. Hostmaelingen responded with a 5-4 win over Italy's Stefano Gilli. Hostmaelingen won 7-4 against Manuel Jermann (Arlesheim, SUI), then won 6-3 against Jacob Schmidt (Hvidovre, DEN) and 8-4 against Johnson Tao (Edmonton, CAN). Hostmaelingen won 7-2 against Sam Flanagan (Naseby, NZL), then won 9-3 against Liqiunan Tao (Beijing, CHN). Hostmaelingen went on to lose 7-5 against Orrin Carson (Stirling, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the World Junior Curling Championships Championship title, Hostmaelingen earned 22.500 world rankings points, moving up 7 spots the World Ranking Standings into 34th place overall with 100.875 total points. Hostmaelingen ranks 34th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 100.875 points earned so far this season.
