Johnson Tao (Edmonton, CAN) finished 4-5 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tao lost 9-4 to Orrin Carson (Stirling, SCO), then responded with a 9-3 win over Sam Flanagan (Naseby, NZL). Tao won 8-4 against Manuel Jermann (Arlesheim, SUI), then won 6-3 against Liqiunan Tao (Beijing, CHN). Tao went on to lose 8-3 against Italy's Stefano Gilli. Tao lost 8-4 to Lukas Hostmaelingen (Oslo, NOR). Tao lost 10-9 to Wesley Wendling (Wausau, USA) where Tao responded with a 8-7 win over Benny Kapp (Fuessen, GER). Tao went on to lose 7-6 against Jacob Schmidt (Hvidovre, DEN) in their final qualifying round match.

Tao earned 4.500 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week 31 of the event schedule, Tao did not improve upon their best events, remaining at 80th place on the World Ranking Standings with 34.500 total points. Tao ranks 80th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 34.500 points earned so far this season.
