McEwen finished 7-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Tyler Smith (Crapaud, PEI) 7-6, then won 7-6 against Gushue and 6-5 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB). McEwen went on to lose 7-4 against Matthew Manuel (Halifax, NS). McEwen responded with a 11-6 win over Aaron Sluchinski (Airdrie, AB). McEwen won 10-2 against Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT), then won 9-3 against Shane Latimer (Iqaluit, NU) and 7-6 against Jean-Michel Arsenault (Levis, QC) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Montana's Brier, McEwen take home 49.500 world rankings points.
