Ethan Sampson (Chaska, USA) finished 4-5 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sampson defeated Eunbin Kim (Kyungil, KOR) 8-5, then went on to lose 8-5 against Benny Kapp (Fuessen/Oberstdorf , GER). Sampson responded with a 6-5 win over Xueqing Fei (Beijing, CHN). Sampson won 7-3 against Giacomo Colli (Cortina d'Ampezzo, ITA). Sampson went on to lose 10-8 against Lukas Hostmaelingen (Oslo, NOR). Sampson responded with a 11-4 win over Serkan Karagoz (Erzurum, TUR). Sampson went on to lose 8-3 against Switzerland's Jan Iseli. Sampson lost 6-2 to Orrin Carson (Dumfries, SCO). Sampson lost 11-5 to Landan Rooney (Whitby, CAN) in their final qualifying round match.

Sampson earned 6.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. Sampson move up 9 spots after posting a net gain of 4.875 points improving upon their best 7 results so far this season, ranking 88th overall with 42.409 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Sampson ranks 86th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 38.626 points earned so far this season.
