Kanai finished 2-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kanai defeated Momoha Tabata (Sapporo, JPN) 8-4, then went on to lose 10-7 against Yoshimura. Kanai responded with a 1-0 win over Yuina Miura (Nayoro, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Wakkanai Midori Challenge Cup, Kanai take home 13.750 world rankings points along with the $4,747CDN prize, moving up 60 spots the World Ranking Standings into 78th place overall with 21.425 total points.
