Hayato Sato (Sapporo, JPN) lost 11-7 to Riku Yanagisawa (karuizawa, JPN) in the Final of the Japan Curling Championships, held May 21 - 29, 2022 in .

Sato finished 7-1 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sato defeated Minato Hayamizu (Nagano, JPN) 12-2, then won 7-2 against Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN) and 9-3 against Japan's Juon Ishimura. Sato won 7-3 against Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN), then won 8-5 against Yasumasa Tanida (Kitami, JPN) and 12-2 against Hiroki Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN). Sato went on to lose 8-3 against Yanagisawa. Sato responded with a 4-2 win over Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the Japan Curling Championships, Sato take home 14.151 world rankings points, moving up 396 spots the World Ranking Standings into 157th place overall with 14.151 total points. Sato ranks 157th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 14.151 points earned so far this season.
