Sato won 7-3 against Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN), then won 8-5 against Yasumasa Tanida (Kitami, JPN) and 12-2 against Hiroki Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN). Sato went on to lose 8-3 against Yanagisawa. Sato responded with a 4-2 win over Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
