Sato finished 7-1 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sato defeated Minato Hayamizu (Nagano, JPN) 12-2, then won 7-2 against Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN) and 9-3 against Japan's Juon Ishimura. Sato won 7-3 against Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, JPN), then won 8-5 against Yasumasa Tanida (Kitami, JPN) and 12-2 against Hiroki Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN). Sato went on to lose 8-3 against Yanagisawa. Sato responded with a 4-2 win over Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Japan Curling Championships, Sato take home 14.151 world rankings points, moving up 396 spots the World Ranking Standings into 157th place overall with 14.151 total points.
