Thurston lost 8-2 to Daniel Casper (Briarcliff Manor, NY) where Thurston responded with a 9-6 win over Wesley Wendling (Wausau, WI). Thurston went on to lose 7-3 against Chase Sinnett (Medfield, MA). Thurston lost 8-7 to Kevin Tuma (St. Paul, MN). Thurston lost 9-5 to Benjamin Randall (Janesville, WI) in their final qualifying round match.

Thurston earned 0.588 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins.
